Depression Therapy

Are You Feeling Weighed Down by Sadness?

Are you overwhelmed, exhausted, and unable to make significant life changes? Are you experiencing:

Persistent sadness or a "heavy" feeling

Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed

Low energy or constant fatigue, even with enough rest

Appetite changes, leading to weight loss or gain

Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt

Physical aches and pains that don’t seem to have a clear cause

Social withdrawal or avoiding interactions with others

You might also feel stuck or unappreciated at work or in your personal life. Even though you want things to change, finding the motivation and energy may feel impossible. Fears of rejection or embarrassment might have left you feeling isolated, making it hard to build and maintain relationships. And perhaps for the first time, you’re considering reaching out to a therapist who specializes in depression recovery.

Depression can show up in all kinds of ways.

Maybe you’ve been dealing with constant fatigue, aches, stomach issues, or changes in your sleep and eating habits. Or perhaps you’re facing a steady lack of energy and motivation, making it challenging to keep up with daily life. It might feel like you can’t even remember the last time things felt manageable, leaving you unsure how to make a real change. And despite your efforts, it may seem like progress is just out of reach. Remember, you’re not alone—healing from depression is possible. At Highland Healing Center, our Depression Therapy provides a safe space where you can openly express yourself without judgment.

We can work together to help you gain the clarity to make the best decisions for yourself and the freedom to pursue what matters most.

Depression Is Often Misunderstood.

Even though there are treatment options available, depression is still one of the most common mental health issues out there. A big part of this is due to lingering stigma—although it’s lessening, it has not gone completely. Society often expects people to "tough it out" without really talking about what they are going through or asking for help. This leaves many people bottling up their feelings, making things more complicated in the long run. Sometimes, the best way to truly heal is with the support of a compassionate professional who can help you through it.

Many People With Depression Do Not Have Enough Support

When you are deep in chronic depression, it can start to feel like this is just your “normal.” But with the support of a dedicated therapist, you can build up the confidence and courage to move past depression and go after what you truly want in life, finding a sense of freedom again. Depression therapy equips you with tools to work through those tough emotions and find peace, no matter where you are on your journey. Plus, as you begin to feel and express your feelings, your confidence grows, making it easier to start moving forward.

What You Can Expect From Therapy Sessions

Before starting your in-person depression therapy, you’ll have a 20-minute phone consultation to connect with your therapist and get a feel for how they work. This call helps your therapist understand what you are looking for in therapy, and it also gives you the chance to decide if this therapist feels like the right fit for you.

In sessions, we will gently explore the underlying causes of your depression and work on building self-regulation skills. Together, we will look at how you got here and what steps you can take to move forward that align with your values and preferences. Our intention is to help you live in a way that supports you in becoming your true, authentic self so you can feel more confident and joyful as you move through the world.

A Therapy Customized Just For You

Your therapist will incorporate multiple treatment methods to address your depression, including:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – EMDR is a therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic or distressing memories by using guided eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation. This approach can reduce the emotional intensity of painful memories.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)– This therapy helps people understand and heal different “parts” of themselves, like inner critics or parts in conflict. By connecting with and understanding these parts, clients can gain self-compassion and create balance and harmony within themselves.
  • Somatic Experiencing – This is a body-centered therapy that helps people process and release trauma by focusing on physical sensations rather than only on thoughts or memories. This approach allows clients to gently work through stuck stress responses, providing safety and calm in their bodies.

Combining these treatment methods will teach you to process intense or complex emotions and feel relief. You may also notice forming and keeping meaningful connections with others becomes more accessible. However, the relationship you will cultivate the most will be the one with yourself. Over time, you will learn to trust yourself, your decisions, and your ability to fully feel. This is the key to moving past depression, and at HHC, we are here to help you work through the self-doubt that has been holding you back. We intend to help you finally feel lighter and free from the heaviness of depression.

You May Still Have Some Questions About Depression Therapy…

I’m already feeling depressed. Will talking about it in therapy just make me feel worse?

Therapy involves facing some tough emotions as part of the healing process, and a good therapist will support you through them by creating a safe, trusting space. They will go at the right pace for you, letting you take the lead. You will also learn ways to work through uncomfortable feelings, practicing these skills in therapy so you can use them in everyday life.

I’ve felt depressed for a long time. Will therapy make my depression go away?

Depression Therapy will not make depression vanish overnight, but it can help you handle intense feelings like anxiety or sadness more smoothly. When you trust yourself to work through challenging emotions, you feel more capable of making life changes that can gradually lift you further out of depression and ultimately redirect your life.

Why should I try therapy again now?

It is normal to feel like nothing can help when you are dealing with depression. Finding the right type of therapy and therapist can be a catalyst for the progress you make. If you’re reading this, it means you want to feel better—and that desire, along with some persistence and support, can help you heal and move forward.
